Greenmiles supports the DTV Conference
Berlin, 27 November 2008
Greenmiles GmbH supports the symposium "Climate Change Calls for Change in Tourism” by German Tourism Association in Berlin. All participants receive a voucher for 75 greenmiles® which they can obtain on the Greenmiles website (www.greenmiles.de) and apply towards making their travel climate neutral. The greenmiles® voucher can help offset the CO2 travel emissions either partially or in full depending on the selected means of transportation. The organizer directly offset the emissions resulting from the speakers’ travel by which approximately 15,000 kg of CO2 emissions were reduced. The total amount of the greenmiles® issued corresponds to the expected emissions of travel to and from the event by all participants.
The CO2 reductions were achieved by the joint-financing of climate protection projects in accordance with the Kyoto Standards (CDM), which reduce global CO2 emissions.
The corresponding calculation is based on the places of origin as well as on empirical values and assumptions about the chosen means of transportation. A greenmile corresponds to a CO2 reduction of 1 kg. Thus, for example, approximately five km can be travelled climate neutrally with a middle-class automobile or approximately 20 km by taking the Intercity Express Train (ICE).
As the energy consumption emissions are offset by the organizer at the location, the entire event is organized climate neutrally.
